Hiss Reet

Hiss Reet GmbH from Bad Oldesloe (Schleswig-Holstein) was founded in 1833 and has grown since the 1920s into Germany's largest thatch merchant. The family business harvests and processes reed in its own operations and supplies natural reed building materials across much of Europe. Alongside classic roofing thatch, the programme covers reed boards, insulation materials, partition systems and acoustic elements. The Akustik Absorber combines the characteristic stubble look of hand-selected reed stalks with sound absorption measured in a reverberation room.

Description

The Hiss Reet acoustic absorber is a modular sound-absorbing element made of hand-selected reed. The upright stalks are fixed with a special foam onto a plasterboard carrier board; the visible end faces create the characteristic stubble look. Using the plug-in system, the 50 × 50 cm modules can be mounted on walls and ceilings, either directly or via a Knauf CD suspension system. The sound absorption has been measured in the reverberation room of Fachhochschule Lübeck per EN ISO 354 (le-acoustics, report VKA215029-P1): in all three tested installation heights E-265, E-400 and E-600 the element reaches αw 0.75 and sound absorption class C per EN ISO 11654, with a full third-octave curve for each build-up. Alongside the standard element, a light-shaft element with an integrated aluminium light shaft and an architects’ material sample are available.
