Besides room acoustics, Acoustic Index lists building components with measured sound insulation: partition and system walls, ceilings, floor build-ups, suspended ceilings, doors, glazing and noise barriers. Every value comes from a test report to EN ISO 10140, EN ISO 10848 or EN 1793 and carries its source.

The key values

Weighted sound reduction index Rw

Single-number airborne sound insulation of a component in dB to ISO 717-1, measured in the laboratory to EN ISO 10140. Rw + Ctr accounts for low-frequency traffic noise. Higher is better.

Impact sound Ln,w and ΔLw

Ln,w is the weighted normalized impact sound pressure level of a floor (lower is better), ΔLw the impact sound reduction of a floor covering or floating floor (higher is better). Both to EN ISO 10140 and ISO 717-2.

Flanking transmission Dn,f,w

Weighted normalized flanking level difference of a suspended ceiling or facade between two rooms to EN ISO 10848. Decisive for privacy between offices under a continuous ceiling.

Noise barrier DLR and DLα

Airborne sound insulation (DLR, classes B1 to B4) and sound absorption (DLα, classes A1 to A5) of noise barriers to EN 1793, the basis of road and rail requirements.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Rw and R'w?
Rw is the laboratory value of a component without flanking paths, R'w the in-situ value including flanking transmission. The values on this page are laboratory values (Rw); code verification applies safety margins and flanking corrections.
What does Rw + Ctr mean?
Ctr is a spectrum adaptation term for low-frequency noise such as road traffic. Rw + Ctr is usually 3 to 8 dB below Rw and is the governing figure when traffic noise sets the requirement.
Where do the values come from?
From test reports of accredited laboratories provided by the manufacturer, for example ift Rosenheim or MFPA Leipzig. Each value on the product page names the laboratory, report number and test build-up; datasheet values are labelled as such.
How do I find an equivalent component?
